Unforgettable Air Tours in South Florida

March 22, 2018

Trying to understand the geography of coastal South Florida can be daunting. There are so many little towns!

Where does Hollywood Beach end and Hallandale Beach begin? How far away is Sunny Isles, as the crow flies? Is South Beach north of Miami Beach? What separates Miami-Dade County from Broward County, its northern neighbor?

And what’s a barrier island?

Driving along South Florida’s main north-south thoroughfares — coastal A1A and Federal Highway — which loosely follow the ebb and flow of the glorious Intracoastal Waterway, you’ll get only glimpses of the ocean or the Intracoastal.

Along the shore, including in the centrally located Hallandale Beach, stunning beachfront high-rise residences burst from the sand like monolithic relics of stone, brushed metal and fritted glass.

With a sunrise view of the Atlantic Ocean and a sunset view over the Intracoastal, this apex of natural splendor lacks nothing but you.

But there’s really only one way to see it: from the air.

Flyover tours are a popular way to get a grasp of South Florida’s unique geography. And if you’re searching for your own personal splendor in the form of a high-rise apartment, luxury high-rise condo or any luxury property that suits your needs, seeing the options from the air is a bonus, and a lot more affordable than you might think.

GoFly Tours flies almost a dozen custom tours out of Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, about 15 miles from Hallandale Beach.

Its team of certified pilots fly Cessna 172 aircraft. Tours are tailored to the geography (the Star Island tour) or to the experience (the romance tour) or can be customized to fit your personal needs.

Venice of America Tour

One of the most popular tours is the Fort Lauderdale + Hollywood tour, a 60-minute excursion to see Fort Lauderdale, called the “Venice of America” because it has 165 miles of waterways packed into its 36 square miles, Port Everglades, Las Olas Boulevard and the beautiful beaches from world-famous Fort Lauderdale Beach to the jewel-toned Hollywood Beach.

Depending on the weather and the light, you may understand why it’s called the “Diamond of the Gold Coast.” This tour costs about $150 per person.

The 75-minute romantic tour is a little more, about $200, and includes a flyover of the luxury beach high-rises and crystal-clear, aqua-blue waters of both coastal counties.

Champagne and chocolate are part of the package. A quick tour over the barrier island of Sunny Isles Beach — two miles of soft, sugar-fine, white sand —lasts about 35 minutes and is about $125 per person. Take a one-hour sunset or exclusive sunrise tour for about $170. Of course, the company is happy to book any custom tour you’d like.

Maybe you don’t like the Cessna. Sky Eagle Tours flies VIP clients in its Cirrus SR-20 and has a Piper Arrow for up to three passengers, flying out of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. A quick 30-minute tour to see Hallandale Beach and the surrounding area is $90 per person or $160 for a couple.

Maybe helicopters are your jam. TourHelicopter.com flies private tours out of North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines to Hollywood and Miami, Coral Gables and Key Biscayne, and Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.

Whether it’s for work or for fun, or a little of both, the perspective from a helicopter is unlike any other. Most flights range from $200 to $400, depending on time and distance. As with most companies, they’re more than ready to customize your flight to meet your needs.
